Marking Snow & After The Snow Melts

New York 811 wants to remind those that are excavating before, during and after winter weather events to check your Automated Positive Responses prior to commencing excavation. Snow can cover marks, and salt on roads can cause marks to fade considerably during this time of year, and markings after snow has melted, could be a major issue.

If there is any question or clarification of a utility mark needed please refer to NYS Code 753 3.4 b ” Whenever the excavator determines that a review of the staking, marking or other designation is necessary or that additional information is required, he or she shall so notify the operator or the one-call notification system.”

It is important prior to commencing your excavation that you are fully aware of each of the utilities response through New York 811’s Ticket Check System (APR).
